Every Merdeka, we often see the same familiar stories, Malays, Chinese, Indians and people of different backgrounds coming together as one. But this year, we wanted to tell a different story.Not because our differences do not matter, but because after 69 years, perhaps we no longer need to keep reminding ourselves that we can unite as Malaysians.Because we already are.
LEPAS BEBAS | MERDEKA MHRF 2026 🇲🇾 Every Merdeka, we often see the same familiar stories, Malays, Chinese, Indians and people of different backgrounds coming together as one. But this year, we wanted to tell a different story. Not because our differences do not matter, but because after 69 years, perhaps we no longer need to keep reminding ourselves that we can unite as Malaysians. Because we already are. This year, Malaysia HR Forum takes a step back and asks a different question: What does Merdeka really mean? What does it truly mean to be bebas? For some, freedom means finally finishing school. No more classes, no more exams, no more schedules. The freedom to sleep in, play games, and do whatever we want. But as we grow older, we begin to realise that freedom is more than simply having no responsibilities. True freedom comes with the ability to make our own choices, to support the people we love, to shape our own future, and to stand on our own feet. And perhaps there is one thing that can bring us closer to that freedom: We keep learning. We keep growing. We keep improving ourselves. Because the more we learn, the more capable we become. And the more capable we become, the more freedom we have to choose the life we want, for ourselves, our families, and the people around us. This Merdeka, may we not only celebrate the freedom we have inherited, but also recognise the responsibility we have to build the freedom of tomorrow. Merdeka is not something we simply receive. Freedom is something we build. From all of us at Malaysia HR Forum, wishing every Malaysian a Happy 69th Independence Day. 🇲🇾 May we continue to learn, grow, and move forward together.
