This foundational module provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of Industrial Relations (IR) disputes and the conciliation process conducted at the Industrial Relations Department. Participants will explore the fundamental legal framework governing IR disputes, the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders, and the procedures involved in managing and resolving disputes through conciliation. The module places strong emphasis on the practical aspects of conciliation, equipping participants with effective negotiation, communication, conflict management, and relationship-building techniques to facilitate productive discussions between parties. Through role-playing exercises, case simulations, and practical activities, participants will have opportunities to apply these techniques to realistic workplace situations and develop greater confidence in handling IR matters. The module also introduces participants to the Industrial Court system, including its jurisdiction, procedures, and key requirements. Participants will examine the differences between the conciliation process and Industrial Court proceedings, while gaining practical insights into preparing for court cases, organising relevant documentation, identifying key stakeholders, and understanding applicable legal requirements. By the end of the module, participants will be better equipped to manage IR disputes professionally, support effective conciliation, and prepare appropriately for potential Industrial Court proceedings while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and procedures.
